Pre Show #8 AIR

Neil Diamond week! Welcome to a special Pre-show edition of the AIR!

This is going out because well, some people just wanted ‘more’. Can’t really put my finger on what ‘more’ is. Maybe more Andy being wrong, stupid, stupidly funny or just …something to smile about.

In any case, let the games begin… ;)

So in order to be a more prepared your AIR editor, moi, decided to have a little fun and downloaded the Ultimate Collection of Neil Diamond. My goal? To incorrectly (what I do best), predict which song each of our remaining 5 idolists will select. Here we go…

The song most recognizable in Neil’s collection to me is Sweet Caroline. Any Boston Red Sox fan knows it well. Will any idoler dare to touch such an iconic song? I am thinking that if they do – it will be all of them as they sing it on Wednesday night prior to the Sayonara Show.

Step up Syesha! Syesha has taken on Mariah and Whitney, sooo why not go after Barbra Streisand too??? She gets her chance tonight when she croons “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers Anymore.”

Well it has been rumored that Jason may not be from this planet after all. Or he might just be a Space Cadet, which is more likely. Tonight it will be confirmed! Either way, Jason chooses to sing a ballad about his little brother, “Turn on your Heart Light”, prompting the audience to somehow
forget about phoning in to vote for him and everyone phones home! by mistake. In any case Jason and E.T. soon enjoy their Reese’s Pieces from the friendly confines of their spaceship of ‘cluelessness’.

Brooke is going to WAIL a rendition of “Hello”. The piano is totally cool, its a part of a movie with a ton of feeling (We all know how much Brooke has feelings right?). Go Brooke, and please watch that part of the Jazz Singer so you get the emotion right.

David Cook is going to go with a version of “I’m a Believer” composed by Neil Diamond, sung by Smash Mouth. It fits his voice and he can get back to the rocker comfort zone he loves.

David Archuleta showcases his boyish voice by picking to sing, “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s my Brother.” Simply chosen because its a song with a message. David is going to go with this classic.

Isn’t this fun? Here I go again, out on a limb, jumpin up and down! Look out below!

  1. Hmmm….do you have an inside scoop from somewhere or are you just very familiar with Neil Diamond?! Nobody is going to bust out ‘comin to america’? So did you see the article in the paper about David Archuleta? He is a little Mormon boy (why did I not assume that?) and he sounds like a shy sweet boy who used to rake the neighbors leaves for service. It made me want him to win even more. I love it when good people do amazing things. (not that the others aren’t good people, I just think David A. is sweet). So anyways, heard Kristy Lee got engaged. That’s 2 during the season with Syesha. Guess the fiances wnat to snatch up their recording artist money, I mean, oops, their fiances quickly. he he. j/k I’m sure it’s true love. Okay, back to work. bye.

  2. You logic is good, but track record would tell otherwise. Be sure to TIVO it because this will be the last time you see Jason (and because you may be pre-occupied tonight)!

  3. Miche, ‘Comin to America’ won’t be sung because Kristy Lee Cook isn’t on the show anymore.

  4. Heather Says:

Andy, tonight just may be your lucky night (possibly in more ways than one!). I can’t wait to see what everyone sings tonight. Nobody at BookWise better leak any info about tonight or I’ll squish them.

  5. Mary Ann Thornley Says:

I think that you could not be MORE RIGHT on the song for Syesha. Spot on. Always takin’ on the Diva’s. Her hair will be HUGE tonight.
HOWEVER…Diet Pepsi’s all around if Jason does not sing “Song Sung Blue”. No notes need to be held for very long, which is a real bonus for him. And he’ll sit on a wooden stool with one leg tucked under a rung to do it (not really a stretch on that part of the guess, it’s his fav pose).
David C. will bust out “If You Know What I Mean”
Brooke (on the piano) Heart Light and she will blow the judges away because she’ll have fun doing it.
Little David A…I think you’re completely wrong on this one, sorry. But,with that very bold statement, I don’t know what he’ll do. He’s versitile enough to probably pull off a half dozen or so different Diamond ballads beautifully…it’ll be a treat whatever it is. No “he’s not heavy, he’s my brother”, tho. Little too cheesy, even for brown eyes…which he will again strain to keep opened during the performance.

  6. Kevin Says:

I’m not going to chime in on my picks for all 5 but I want to throw out there that David C is going to sing “Brother Love’s Salvation Show” and NO I am not cheating because the episode has already aired. Really!

  7. Meg Says:

So Andy, the big question is – after downloading the Ultimate Collection of Neil Diamond and hearing them on American Idol, Are you a Neil Diamond fan? Even just a little…..

    Go Neil! :)

  8. Kevin Says:

    Wow! When you’re wrong…

You didn’t know you had TWICE the chances to pick one right and still struck out. It’s ok, at least you’re swinging the bat!
